The Dryden will screen The Mask of Fu Manchu (Charles Brabin, U.S. 1932, 67 min., 35mm).

Boris Karloff, fresh from Frankenstein, The Mummy, and The Old Dark House, stars as the diabolical Chinese megalomaniac Dr. Fu Manchu, who tries to take over the world via archeology and torture. Myrna Loy gives a vibrant performance as Fu's young daughter, helping him in his quest to acquire the sword and mask of Genghis Khan. Using somewhat elaborate negotiation methods (hungry crocodiles, unnecessary surgery, dagger-laden sliding walls) our villain tries to persuade an archaeological team to "donate" the magical relics which will endow him with the power to rule.
