The Invention of Writing in Mesopotamia: New Approaches to a Very Old Problem lecture, Dr. Jennifer C. Ross

2016-Oct-20 @ 19:30 - 21:30

Free

Dr. Jennifer C. Ross will present an Archaeological Assoc. of America (AIA), Rochester Society lecture titled The Invention of Writing in Mesopotamia: New Approaches to a Very Old Problem.

The invention of writing, an event that took place around the globe at several different times and places, has typically been attributed to a "genius" who had a need for a new method of communication and vision for how to fulfill that need. Evidence exists, however, that can get us closer to an answer of who invented cuneiform writing, and how; this lecture offers new perspectives on who the earliest writers were, and how they developed their communication system.
