The Golf Specialist, The Night Ride screenings
2018-Dec-11 @ 19:30 - 20:50
The Dryden will screen The Golf Specialist (Monte Brice, U.S. 1930, 20 min., 35mm), and The Night Ride (John S. Robertson, U.S. 1930, 60 min., 35mm) as part of the Silent Tuesdays series.
As sound became a primary tool for filmmakers of the 1930s, fast-talking reporters and gangsters became a staple. In this film, Joseph Schildkraut is the reporter who links gangster Edward G. Robinson to a double murder and payroll robbery. When Robinson vows revenge, it's a race against time to make sure that Schildkraut's wife remains safe. Preceded by W. C. Fields's first sound short that captures his popular Ziegfeld Follies sketch in which a con-man attempts to teach a hotel house detective's wife how to play golf.
