Suspicion screening

2019-Feb-20 @ 19:30 - 21:09

The Dryden will screen Suspicion (Alfred Hitchcock, U.S. 1941, 99 min., 35mm) as part of the Oscar Week series.

A classic Hitchcock psychological thriller, Suspicion stars Cary Grant as Johnnie Aysgarth, a gambling playboy who charms and elopes with wealthy and shy Lina McLaidlaw, played by Joan Fontaine. As Lina learns the hard truth about her husband, and his business partner turns up dead, she begins to suspect that he is plotting to murder her for her money. The film's twist ending remains hotly contested to this day. For her portrayal of Lina, Joan Fontaine won an Academy Award for Best Actress in 1941, the only performance in a Hitchcock film ever to be awarded an Oscar.
