Psycho screening, James Cutting discussion

2016-Mar-22 @ 18:30 - 20:19

The Little will screen Psycho (Alfred Hitchcock, U.S. 1960, 109 min.) as part of the Science on Screen series.

This special Science on Screen presentation includes a discussion by Dr. James Cutting, Chair of the Department of Psychology at Cornell University focusing on Hitchcock's visual techniques to control the mind of the moviegoer. Phoenix secretary Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), on the lam after stealing $40,000 from her employer in order to run away with her boyfriend, Sam Loomis (John Gavin), is overcome by exhaustion during a heavy rainstorm. Traveling on the back roads to avoid the police, she stops for the night at the ramshackle Bates Motel and meets the polite but highly strung proprietor Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), a young man with an interest in taxidermy and a difficult relationship with his mother. This iconic, groundbreaking film was directed by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock.
