The Dryden will screen Portrait of Jennie (William Dieterle, U.S. 1948, 86 min., 35mm).

Jennifer Jones plays an ethereal young woman (is she a time traveler? a ghost?) who makes a lasting impression on artist Joseph Cotten. Entranced, he attempts to paint her portrait and unravel her mysterious past. The screening of this stunningly beautiful nitrate print from our own collection was one of the highlights of the first Nitrate Picture Show in 2015. A rare occurrence in the sound era, this release print utilizes tinting, toning, and a single shot of three-strip Technicolor to round out its narrative.
