In the first two-thirds of the 20th century, there were women who had the drive and independence to break free and succeed in a society which discriminated against them. These women sang of their trials, tribulations, and joys, and the LGBTQ community connected with them, as we understood the words and emotions, and longed for the same things that they either longed for, and they continue to be a fascination for us. Tonight, we'll bring these songs to life again, with the help of the narration of WXXI's own Michael Lasser, as we sing songs made famous by such artists as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Fanny Brice, Ethel Merman, Barbara Cook, Barbra Streisand, and Judy Garland, plus many more.
