Gandhi screening (2019-Oct-13 @ 2 p.m.)
2019-Oct-13 @ 14:00 - 17:11
The Dryden will screen Gandhi (Richard Attenborough, U.K./India 1982, 191 min., 35mm) with a Special Introduction by Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mohandas Gandhi and founder of the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence as part of the Gandhi at 150 series.
Celebrating the 150th anniversary of Mohandas Gandhi's birth, the Dryden Theatre presents Attenborough's Academy Award—winning epic for the first time. The film follows Gandhi from his early adulthood, beginning in South Africa as he becomes a proponent of nonviolent protest through to his efforts to oppose British rule in India. Gandhi's methods inspired great leaders throughout the twentieth century, including Martin Luther King Jr., Lech Walesa, the Dalai Lama, and Nelson Mandela, making him one of the most influential persons of modern times. The film earned eight Oscars in all, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor for Ben Kingsley's timeless performance.
