Full Frontal screening
2019-May-01 @ 19:30 - 21:11
$50The Dryden will screen Full Frontal (Steven Soderbergh, U.S. 2002, 101 min., 35mm) introduced by Julia Roberts in person.
When asked to select one of her films to introduce at the Dryden Theatre on the evening before she receives the George Eastman Award, Julia Roberts selected Full Frontal. Steven Soderbergh's formally inventive ensemble piece is shot on both video and film, demarcating "real life" from the film-within-the-film. Julia Roberts is an actor being filmed in a romantic drama while dealing with her own issues off the set. A sly commentary on the creative nature of narratives, particularly in motion pictures, the film follows a set of Hollywood denizens across what appears to be a single day. Art mirrors life as lines of dialogue and awkward situations appear in both the real world and the fictional—the artists are creating their own narratives as they create them for an audience. The all-star cast also features David Duchovny, Catherine Keener, David Hyde Pierce, and Blair Underwood, as well as cameos by Brad Pitt, director David Fincher, and Soderbergh himself.
