The Dryden will screen Bollywood/Hollywood (Deepa Mehta, India 2002, 105 min., 35mm) as part of the Bollywood and Beyond! series.

Familial pressure to marry is once again the trope of this movie set in Toronto and directed by Deepa Mehta. Rahul (Rahul Khanna) feels he must marry before his sister. When he discovers that her wedding date is set, he must find the perfect Indian bride. In a bar, he meets Sue aka Sunita (Lisa Ray) who agrees to play his fiancée for $5,000. An assemblage of Bollywood character actors rounds out the family who quote every corny line from Shakespeare to Hollywood movies. A romantic comedy true to the traditions of Bollywood takes on a Canadian twist.
