Bobby Bumps' Disappearing Gun, The Tip, The Cook, The Blue Bird screenings
2018-Dec-29 @ 13:30 - 15:18
The Dryden will screen Bobby Bumps' Disappearing Gun (Earl Hurd, U.S. 1918, 4 min., 35mm), The Tip (Billy Gilbert, Gilbert Pratt, U.S. 1918, 6 min., 35mm), The Cook (Roscoe Arbuckle, U.S. 1918, 18 min., 35mm), and The Blue Bird (Leo McCarey, U.S. 1918, 80 min., 35mm) with live piano accompaniment by Philip C. Carli as part of the Always at the Dryden series.
The Dryden celebrates the cinema of a century ago with this program of Eastman Museum preservations. First is an early animation of a Buster Brown—inspired mischievous tyke and his snowy contraption. Then, it's an early Harold Lloyd short, just after he had adopted the "glasses" character. Third is a "Fatty" Arbuckle and Buster Keaton short (long considered lost) about a chaotic restaurant and its employees. The feature is the lyrical silent adaptation of Maurice Maeterlinck's play, complete with restored tinting found in the original nitrate print.
