Bestia (Beast) screening

The Dryden will screen Bestia (Beast, Aleksander Hertz, Poland 1917, 67 min., DCP) followed by a discussion with Wlodek Pawlik, and Mark Watters as part of the Polish Film Festival and Silent Tuesdays series.
One of the earliest extant films from Polish screen siren Pola Negri, here playing a rebellious teenager. After Pola fights with her father, she runs away from home with the help of her boyfriend, Dmitri. Wanting more, she gets Dmitri drunk, steals all his money and runs away to the city, where she falls into the arms of a married man. This film will be presented with both pre-recorded music and accompaniment by composer Wlodek Pawlik.
