Hung Liu began her art studies in her native China and came to the U.S. in 1984. By reworking photographic images from Chinese history into layered allegorical paintings, she bridges the emotional distances imposed by culture, time and geography. Liu is professor emerita at Mills College in Oakland, Ca, where she taught for nearly two decades.
