A Night at the Movies in 1915 screening of shorts
2015-Dec-29 @ 20:00 - 21:37
The Dryden will screen A Night at the Movies in 1915 featuring Pathé News No. 91 (Pathé, U.S. 1915, 5 min., 35mm), Exploits of Elaine—episode 1 (George B. Seitz, Louis Gasnier, U.S. 1914—15, 15 min., 35mm), Dreamy Dud (Essanay, U.S. 1915, 2 min., 35mm), The Simp and the Sophomores (Will Louis, U.S. 1915, 15 min., 35mm), and The Cheat (Cecil B. Demille, U.S. 1915, 60 min., 35mm), all with live piano accompaniment by Philip C. Carli.
Get into your Delorean, call H. G. Wells and see if he has a multi-seater, we are going back in time! The Dryden will be showing what it was like to go to the movie theater a hundred years ago. There's a feature, a cartoon, a newsreel, an episode of a serial, and a comedy short—all perfect examples of a special kind of entertainment (and education) our grand (grand, grand) parents enjoyed in the very first movie palaces and flea pits when the twentieth century was still young.
