Aristocrat Ingrid Bergman weds stableman Joseph Cotten with unforeseen results in Hitchcock's excursion into the costume drama. Misunderstood and underappreciated on its release, Under Capricorn was later hailed by French New Wave critics as one of the finest films of the 1940s.
