In "Candida", Shaw presents a minister's wife compelled to choose between her staid husband, the Rev. James Morell, and a mysterious young suitor, Eugene Marchbanks. A scoundrel of a father-in-law, a fawning intern and a conflicted secretary add to the comedy and Shaw takes ample opportunity for social commentary, as always, challenging Victorian standards, especially those involving marriage.
