Another box office hit and overall critical success for the Coens, whose formula had been largely perfected. Director Rithy Panh uses clay models as stand-ins for his family, neighbors, and many other Cambodians who lived under the oppressive regime of the Khmer Rouge (1975&mdash;79). Panh was thirteen when he escaped from Cambodia to France, where he started his career as a documentary filmmaker.
