Transgender Day of Remembrance
2016-Nov-20 @ 14:00 - 15:30
November 20th marks Transgender Day of Remembrance a day in which we come together to honor the memory of those lost. TDOR takes on many forms depending on the needs of the community, but at each observance across the country we take a few minutes to speak the names of the people who were lost. All too often the media, the police, and the victims families erase their trans identity. On TDOR we remember all those whose lives were cut short by saying their names and acknowledging them as their authentic selves. This year's observance was a collaborative effort aimed at bringing the community together to mourn, to remember, and to say that this senseless violence needs to stop. Immediately following the observance at MLK Park, there will be a community gathering at Open Arms MCC, with light refreshments.
