The Three Erie Canals: History and Folklore, Bruce Schwendy

Bruce Schwendy, a member of the Canal Society of New York State, will discuss the basic history of the Erie Canal including the three Erie Canal eras beginning with Clinton's Ditch, completed in 1825 and ending with the canal of today. He will discuss four areas of canal folklore and talk about local canal sites in the South Wedge area. Founded in 1956, the Canal Society is a not-for-profit educational organization that enables people to visit canal sites in NY State and beyond through regular, organized field trips, to share information and ideas about preserving canal history and traditions.
