The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp screening (2017-Sep-23 @ 7:30 p.m.)
2017-Sep-23 @ 19:30 - 22:09
The Dryden will screen The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (Michael Powell, Emeric Pressburger, U.K. 1943, 159 min., 35mm) as part of the WWI series.
Famous for being the film that infuriated Winston Churchill, this gorgeously shot satirical view of British military life traces the consequences of political ignorance and emotional blockage from the Boer War to Hitler, with the density and structure of an epic novel. Deborah Kerr shines in perhaps her best role, as three different women in a long and adventurous life of a professional soldier Clive Candy (equally great Roger Livesey).
