The Caine Mutiny screening (2019-Feb-22 @ 7:30 p.m.)

2019-Feb-22 @ 19:30 - 21:34

The Dryden will screen The Caine Mutiny (Edward Dmytryk, U.S. 1954, 124 min., 35mm) as part of the Oscar Week series.

On the Pacific Ocean during World War II, Ensign Willie Keith (Robert Francis) reports for duty to the fictitious naval minesweeper USS Caine. The slovenly crew is soon put in order by new Captain Phillip Queeg (Humphrey Bogart). A string of incidents lead many in the crew to believe that Queeg is paranoid and perhaps insane, culminating in a mutiny when they fear that the ship will sink during a typhoon. The film follows the story of the crew from sea to land as Ensign Keith and Lieutenant Maryk (Van Johnson) are tried for mutiny by a court-martial. Based on Herman Wouk's Pulitzer Prize—winning novel, The Caine Mutiny received seven Oscar nominations, including for Best Picture and Best Actor (Bogart).
