Suicide Prevention: Strategies for Helping Yourself and Those You Care About

2017-Feb-27 @ 18:30 - 20:30

Free

Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. The goal of suicide prevention is to reduce factors that increase someone's risk for a suicide attempt (e.g., depression) and also to increase factors that promote resilience and coping (e.g., social connectedness). In this presentation, we will combat stigma by talking about this important topic. We will discuss facts and myths about suicide and emphasize strategies we can all take to reduce our risk and help reduce the risk of those we care about. An informational program will be presented by Kimberly Van Orden, PhD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.
