Ladyhawke screening (2017-Apr-17 @ 1:30 p.m.)

2017-Apr-17 @ 13:30 - 15:31

The Dryden will screen Ladyhawke (Richard Donner, U.S. 1985, 121 min., 35mm) as part of the Vittorio Storaro series.

This unabashedly romantic swashbuckling fantasy from powerhouse director Richard Donner (Superman, Goonies, Lethal Weapon) hasn't achieved the cult status of The Princess Bride, but it's getting there, largely thanks to the glorious camerawork of Vittorio Storaro: His golden-hour cinematography captures all the mist and magic of a medieval Italian countryside. Matthew Broderick stars as a pickpocket who escapes the dungeons of the villainous Bishop of Aquila (John Wood) only to serve as a go-between of sorts to a pair of spellbound shapeshifters (Rutger Hauer, Michelle Pfeiffer) doomed never to cross paths in human form. The film works beautifully in spite of the fact that the perfectly matched lovers never appear together on screen—or do they?
