Gallipoli screening

2017-Oct-21 @ 19:30 - 21:20

The Dryden will screen Gallipoli (Peter Weir, Australia 1981, 110 min., 35mm) as part of the WWI series.

The Australian and New Zealand Army Corps—ANZAC—were part of a massive Allied effort to aid Russia in preventing Ottoman Empire from invading the Caucasus. Peter Weir's sweeping and poignant Gallipoli re-creates that battle and the dreadful price that was paid by both Allied and Central Powers. Weir narrows his focus to the friendship between two young Australian volunteers—Jack and Archy, both competitive runners, who together share the horrors of war, the value of loyalty, and the bond of kinship. As Jack and Archy, Mel Gibson and Mark Lee represent all the young men whose lives are irrevocably changed by combat.
