Focus 45: Paolo Cherchi Usai, The Color of Nitrate
2017-Nov-11 @ 12:00 - 14:00
The Eastman Museum holds a vast collection of original nitrate film frames, originally owned by Italian film historian Davide Turconi. These 24,000 samples came from the archive of Josef Joye, a Jesuit priest in Switzerland who had collected early films from about 1900 to 1915. The story of these unique documents in the history of cinema is a moral tale on the adventures and perils of film preservation. Learn about the collection at this talk by Paolo Cherchi Usai, senior curator, Moving Image Department.
