Fanny och Alexander (Fanny and Alexander) screening

2018-Apr-07 @ 19:30 - 22:57

The Dryden will screen Fanny och Alexander (Fanny and Alexander, Ingmar Bergman, Sweden/France/West Germany 1982, 207 min., Swedish w/subtitles) as part of the Academy Awards at 90 series.

Fanny and Alexander, a stunning family saga set in turn-of-the-century Sweden, focuses on the lives of half a dozen characters over the course of a year. The theatrical version re-edited from the original television series is a virtual compendium of the themes, situations, characters, and images present in Bergman's other works. It is also perhaps the most personal of his films, its huge cast including members of his own family. Following its premiere, Bergman announced that he would no longer make films for theatrical release. An Oscar winner not only for Best Foreign Language Film, the film was also awarded Best Costume Design, Best Art Direction—set Decoration, and Best Cinematography, for Sven Nykvist's peerless work in color.
