Church and State: The Strange Career of "Free Exercise" lecture by Garrett Epps

FreeGarrett Epps is a legal scholar, nonfiction author and novelist. A graduate of Harvard University and Duke Law School, he teaches constitutional law, as well as fiction and nonfiction writing at the University of Baltimore School of Law and is the Supreme Court correspondent for the Atlantic.com. He is a former staff writer for the Washington Post, and his journalism and criticism have been published in leading national newspapers and magazines. As the author of such works as To an Unknown God: Religious Freedom on Trial; Ten Right-Wing Myths About Our Constitution, and American Justice 2014: Nine Clashing Visions on the Supreme Court, he brings an uniquely insightful and informed perspective to the understanding of issues regarding church-state separation. In his upcoming talk, he will focus on how the "free exercise" of religion guaranteed in the Constitution became a freedom to discriminate.
