Celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein

2018-Oct-24 @ 18:00 - 20:00

Free

In the Kate Gleason Auditorium of the Bausch and Lomb Library Building, Tim Madigan will Celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

Published 200 years ago and never out of print since then, Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein is a story of a man obsessed with creating artificial life. Victor Frankenstein and his rejected creation aren't far removed from today's discussions on fetal tissue research, life-extension, human cloning, and surrogate motherhood. This talk will discuss the novel and how it differs significantly from its many film adaptations, as well as the various controversies it has inspired since its original publication in 1818. Frankenstein is as "immortal" as any novel can be.
