Addiction, Recovery, and the Failed War on Drugs: A Community Dialogue with Jose Benitez

2017-Mar-30 @ 19:00 - 21:00

Free

U.S. policies have been ineffective in preventing the current opioid crisis. People of color are disproportionately arrested and convicted for drug related crimes. What are the most effective tools to combat these destructive health disparities? Benitez — A SUNY Brockport graduate — is the Executive Director of Prevention Point, Philadelphia, an agency founded in 1991 by Act Up activists in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Under the leadership of Benitez, the agency has earned a national reputation for its innovative harm reduction programs and advocacy of effective, humane substance abuse policies. A panel of community members will join Benitez in an eye-opening discussion of this timely topic.
