The Dryden will screen Doctor X (Michael Curtiz, U.S. 1932, 76 min., 35mm) as part of the Riskin and Wray series.

In this pre-Code, early two-color Technicolor mystery/horror film, Doctor Xavier (Lionel Atwill) is suspected of a string of brutal murders in New York City. After an initial period of distrust, his daughter (Fay Wray) teams with reporter Lee Taylor (Lee Tracy) and uses her father's own unorthodox means of uncovering the truth, to ferret out the killer. Taking advantage of loose enforcement of the Production Code, the film weaves adult themes such as rape, prostitution, and cannibalism into its tight running time. Michael Curtiz, years before his blockbuster prestige projects, adds a flair of aesthetics to the affair.
