The Photographic Historical Society March 2018 Meeting

2018-Mar-15 @ 19:30 - 21:30

"Preserving Patchogue: How Glass Negatives Opened a Door to a Town's Past" will be given by Daniel Menzo. He will relate how he conserved some of the 2,000 glass plate negatives donated to the historical society in Long Island, NY. As a summer intern he was able to clean and digitize the early 20th-century plates. He will share some interesting images and notable findings. Chris Holmquist will give a brief lecture about some of his recent research into the history of dry plate manufacturing in the United States. A few interesting stories and discoveries will be shared, along with recommendations for continued studies of this history. A 'complete' history of dry plate manufacturing has yet to be written, and even in the 21st century exciting developments are still taking place.
