The Silence of the Lambs screening (2018-Feb-10 @ 7:30 p.m.)

2018-Feb-10 @ 19:30 - 21:28

The Dryden will screen The Silence of the Lambs (Jonathan Demme, U.S. 1991, 118 min., 35mm) as part of the Academy Awards at 90 series.

There have been sequels, prequels, television series, and too many cheap knock-offs to count, but with the possible exception of Michael Mann's Manhunter (1986), nothing comes close to Jonathan Demme's take on Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lecter (played here by Anthony Hopkins): a brilliant psychiatrist who not only gets inside his victims' heads, he cooks and eats whatever he finds there (served, of course, with fava beans and a nice chianti). It's been 26 years since this serial-killer classic became the first—and only—horror film ever to win an Academy Award for Best Picture (and is one of only three films in history to win the Big Five), but it's lost none of its ferocious bite.
