Belfast, Maine screening
2017-Oct-13 @ 18:30 - 22:38
The Dryden will screen Belfast, Maine (Frederick Wiseman, U.S. 1999, 248 min., 16mm) as part of the Labor Film Series.
Belfast, Maine is a film about ordinary experience in a beautiful old New England port city. It is a portrait of daily life with particular emphasis on the work and the cultural life of the community. Among the activities shown in the film are the work of lobstermen, tugboat operators, factory workers, shop owners, city counselors, doctors, judges, police officers, teachers, social workers, nurses, and ministers. Cultural activities include choir rehearsal, dance class, music lessons, and theatre production. Perhaps his finest accomplishment, Belfast, Maine summarizes Wiseman's tireless effort to chronicle American society.
