Michael Boester, Associate Professor of Geography, Monroe Community College, will cover the history of American graveyards, starting with the rural cemetery movement up to and including today's trends towards cremation and green burials. He will also share biographies of many early Rochesterians, and information on buildings, Victorian symbolism, mausoleums, and geology. The five-hour tour covering both the north and south areas of Mount Hope Cemetery is divided into two parts separated by a 30-minute lunch break.
