A Clockwork Orange screening (2017-Sep-9 @ 7:30 p.m.)

2017-Sep-09 @ 19:30 - 21:46

The Dryden will screen A Clockwork Orange (Stanley Kubrick, U.K./U.S. 1971, 136 min., 35mm) as part of the Museum Treasures, and Primal Screen series.

Almost half a century after its release, Kubrick's most successful film at the box office is still his most controversial. The director himself decided to withdraw it from circulation in the U.K. after a series of criminal acts allegedly inspired by Anthony Burgess's dystopian view of a society torn between violence and repression. For the history of cinema, this is also a tour de force in expressionist style, brilliantly complemented by the electronic soundtrack by Wendy Carlos.
