The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse screening

2017-Sep-05 @ 19:30 - 22:03

The Dryden will screen The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (Rex Ingram, U.S. 1921, 153 min., 16mm) with live piano accompaniment by Philip C. Carli as part of the WWI series.

One of the biggest successes of the silent era, Four Horsemen had an enormous impact upon its release in 1921. This early example of antiwar filmmaking struck a chord with American and international audiences, as it did not shy away from depicting the suffering and chaos of the Great War, then a recent memory for viewers. The film also made a star out of young Rudolph Valentino, whose dancing skills are showcased in the famous tango scene. Some thrilling special effects sequences make The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse well worth seeing on the big screen.
