Writing With Photographs, Gail Hosking
2017-Jan-21 @ 10:30 - 12:00
Gail Hosking will present a workshop titled
Writing With Photographs
in the Kate Gleason Auditorium in the Bausch and Lomb Library Building.
Bring a few photographs to work with as we learn how to study them for information we can use in our writing. We will learn the art of observation using the French philosopher Roland Barthes terms "the punctum" and "the stadium." From there we will unfold what needs to be written and begin to shape some of the photographs' secret truths. Gathering these threads of history, we will find our material. Instructor Gail Hosking is the author of the memoir Snake's Daughter: the Roads in and out of War and the poetry chapbook The Tug. Her work has been anthologized several times. She holds an MFA from Bennington College and taught for many years at RIT.
