Eyes of Laura Mars screening

2016-Nov-17 @ 20:00 - 21:44

The Dryden will screen Eyes of Laura Mars (Irvin Kershner, U.S. 1978, 104 min., 35mm) as part of the (In)visibility series.

Laura Mars (Faye Dunaway), a New York City—based fashion photographer, finds herself capable of seeing through her own eyes murders that target people around her. Shocked by the serial deaths of her colleagues and fearing that she could be the next victim, Mars builds a close relationship with the detective (Tommy Lee Jones) in charge of solving the mystery. A big box office hit upon its release, this thriller is composed of dark murder scenes as well as lively surreal images of the fashion world of 1970s New York City. What makes the film more interesting, though, is the character of Laura Mars, highly empowered by her extraordinary vision, and the film's "cleverness," which according to New York Times reviewer Janet Maslin, is also the most important characteristic of the film itself.
