The Dryden Theater at George Eastman House (900 East Ave.) will be showing Robocop starting at 8 p.m. A cop is nearly killed, resurrected as a nearly unstoppable cyborg — a vicious satire of the world of the corporate police state.

The Dryden Theater at George Eastman House (900 East Ave.) will be showing Survival of the Dead starting at 8 p.m. and again on Sunday at 7 p.m. From the Eastman House calendar: "the sixth and latest installment in director Romero's innovative, influential, and allegorical series of zombie epics provides another story of humans vs. flesh-eating ghouls, with, this time, a spin on the classic Western. The story involves a feud between two warring clan leaders on an isolated island: one who believes that the only good zombie is a dead zombie and another who thinks they should be left alone until a cure can be found, resulting in the perverse spectacle of the undead, chained inside their own homes, pretending to lead normal lives."

The Dryden Theater at George Eastman House (900 East Ave.) will be showing Metropolis — The New Restoration! starting at 8 p.m. and again on Sunday at 4 p.m. Among the first epic, socially-conscious science fiction films, the film now includes 20 minutes of newly found footage. Despite my desire to see the grandmother of all sexy lady robots once again, I'll be out of town. Consider, though, that Metropolis is the reverse perspective from The Time Machine: both feature an underground working class, but one shows them as ugly mutants and the other as exploited heroes.

The Dryden Theater at George Eastman House (900 East Ave.) will be showing The Good Old Naughty Days starting at 8 p.m. The Eastman House calendar says, "this collection of French blue movies from the silent era was selected from a collection of 300 one-reelers discovered in the attic of a 'very respectable family.' The compilation features a dozen hard-core shorts made between 1905 and 1930. It reveals production standards far in advance of comparable films being made elsewhere at the time." Running time?: that's right — 69 minutes.

This page is Jason Olshefsky's list of things to do in Rochester, NY and the surrounding region (including nearby towns Irondequoit, Webster, Penfield, Pittsford, Victor, Henrietta, Gates, Chili, Greece, and Charlotte, and occasionally other places in Monroe County and the Western New York region.) It is updated every week with daily listings for entertainment, activities, performances, movies, music, bands, comedy, improv, poetry, storytelling, lectures, discussions, debates, theater, plays, and generally fun things to do.
Music events are usually original bands with occasional cover bands and DJ's with musical styles including punk, emo, ska, swing, rock, rock-and-roll, alternative, metal, jazz, blues, noise band, experimental music, folk, acoustic, and "world-beat."
Events listed take place during the day, in the evenings, or as part of the city's nightlife as listed.
Although I'm reluctant to admit it, it is a Rochester blog and I'm essentially blogging about Rochester events.
I also tend to express opinions, review past events, make reviews, speak of philosophy or of a philosophical nature, discuss humanity and creativity.
Oh, and it's spelled JayceLand with no space and a capital L, not Jayce Land, Jaycee Land, Jace Land, Jase Land, Joyce Land, Jayce World, Jayceeland, Jaceland, Jaseland, Joyceland, Jayceworld, Jayceeworld, Jaceworld, Jaseworld, nor Joyceworld. (Now if you misspell it in some search engine, you at least get a shot at finding it.)
It's also not to be confused with
Jake's World or JakesWorld which is a site of a Rochester animator.
While I'm on the topic of keywords for search engines, this update includes information for Thursday, June 24, 2010 (Thu, Jun 24, 2010, 6/24/2010, or 6/24/10) Friday, June 25, 2010 (Fri, Jun 25, 2010, 6/25/2010, or 6/25/10) Saturday, June 26, 2010 (Sat, Jun 26, 2010, 6/26/2010, or 6/26/10) Sunday, June 27, 2010 (Sun, Jun 27, 2010, 6/27/2010, or 6/27/10) Monday, June 28, 2010 (Mon, Jun 28, 2010, 6/28/2010, or 6/28/10) Tuesday, June 29, 2010 (Tue, Jun 29, 2010, 6/29/2010, or 6/29/10) and Wednesday, June 30, 2010 (Wed, Jun 30, 2010, 6/30/2010, or 6/30/10).
