JayceLand's Weekly Rochester Events #101: So Very Warm
Last Thursday, Jan and I went to see Ralph Nader speak at RIT.
The interesting part happened beforehand -- when we showed up a half-hour early, there was
a big line that went through the Student Union and out the doors by the bookstore
halfway to the Liberal Arts building. It was probably close to a quarter mile from
beginning to end. To check to see if they let people in, I suggested we check out the
door by Ingle Auditorium on the Student Union. When we got there, Jan walked up and opened it right up.
We only waited in line about ten minutes -- so much for fairness ... then again,
we are alumni, damn it! Screw those punks.
Anyway, old Ralphy boy went on a lot about the corporatization of America. He went into detail
about how corporations have limited our ability to choose the best product to the point that
we've become quite accustomed to buying crap and loving it. To add insult to injury, corporate
lobbying has all but eliminated government regulation, and they've managed to spend tons of money
on corporate welfare. Drug companies get the formulae for various prescription drugs
for free from the government then charge tons of money for it. Welcome to America.
Unfortunately, he didn't go into too much detail about what exactly to do about it. Kinda
leaves you feeling pretty bad. :-)
